Caus. -तापयति ( Pass. -ताप्यते), to cause to be heated, make very hot, burn, inflame, scorch, [Kauś.]; [MBh.] &c.;

to pair by heat, torture, torment ( आत्मानम्, ‘one's self. i.e. to afflict the body by austerities’), afflict, trouble, distress, [MBh.]; [Kāv. &c.]
