निर्घातः [nirghātḥ]   1 Destruction.
   A whirlwind, a violent gust of wind, hurricane.
   The noise of contending winds (vapours ?) &c. in the sky; कुरुकुलनिधनोत्पातनिर्घात- वातः [Ve.1.22;] निर्घातोग्रैः कुञ्जलीनाञ् जिघांसुर्ज्यानिर्घोषैः क्षोभया- मास सिंहान् [R.9.64;] [Ms.1.38;4.15,7;] [Y.1.145;] (वायुना निहतो वायुर्गगनाच्च पतत्यधः । प्रचण्डघोरनिर्घोषो निर्घात इति कथ्यते ॥.)
   An earth-quake.
