अपस्  n.  1. n. ( fr. 1. अ॑प्), work, action, especially sacred act, sacrificial act, [RV.][ Lat. ओपुस्.]
अपस्  mfn.  2. mfn. active, skilful in any art, [RV.]
अपस्  f.  f. pl. ( अ॑सस्) N. of the hands and fingers (when employed in kindling the sacred fire and in performing the sacrifices), [RV.]
   of the three goddesses of sacred speech, [RV.]; [VS.]
   of the active or running waters, [RV.]; [AV.]
अपस्  mfn.  3. mfn. ( fr. 2. अ॑प्), watery. (So some passages of the ऋग्-वेद [ i, 95, 4, &c.] may (according to, [NBD.] and others) be translated where the word is applied to the running waters See 2. at end and अप॑स्-तम.)

   Work, action; अपसा सन्तु नेमे [Rv.1.54.8.]
   Sacred act or rite, sacrificial work.
   Water. -a. (अपाः)
   Active, engaged in any act (कर्मयुक्त).
   Got or obtained. According to B. and R. अपसः f. pl. stands in the Veda for (1) the hands and fingers busy in kindling the sacred fire and performing the sacrificial rites; (2) the three goddesses of sacred speech or the three divinities, fire, wind and sun; and (3) the active or running waters.
