अ (अन् before vowels), sometimes by निर्, वि, दुस् pr., हीन, रहित in comp.; ‘unaided’ असहाय, साहाय्यहीन; ‘undaunted’ निर्भीक, अभय; ‘unmixed’ अ- -मिश्र; ‘unwelcome’ अप्रिय, अनभिमत &c.; ‘unattainable’ दुष्प्राप (In cases where the word formed with ‘un’ is not given, the student should take the simple word or form it, and use the above prefixes. With nouns the sense of ‘un’ may be expressed by अप-नी 1 P, or हृ 1 P; e. g. ‘unbar’ अर्गलं अपनी, निरगलीकृ &c.).
