A designation of honor for a head smith, or carpenter, or mason, or armorer; also of the man, esp. if a Portuguese, who makes up the bread in a bakery. Applied often to a Superintendent generally. Applied further, out of abounding courtesy, to Portuguese servants, esp. cooks.
